The Hole in the Yard — Part 2

I would like to tell you of one night, quite some time ago.

I was living, oh my, yes, I was living in this very same quarters as I am living now. Has it really been so long? It must have. My mind is still as sharp as a tack. How could it not be?

It was a rather mild night in June, and I was sitting, as was my regular custom back in those days, on the sofa in my living room, watching a film on the television. I had left the door open. I usually like to leave the door open most of the time when I’m at home, just to let the breeze in.

And on this particular night, it was so calm and beautiful outside. The night was so wondrously still, with stars shining so brightly in the clear dark sky, that I just wanted to leave the door open to let in some of the beauty — the beauty of the universe — into my quiet little home.

So, as I was sitting there watching the film I had put on — I’m not quite sure which one it was, most likely a science fiction, as I am quite fond of science fiction — but anyway, while I was sitting there watching it, out of the corner of my eye, out of my window I saw a quick flash, brilliant in scope, up high in the sky.
