Stolen Lives / Stolen Milk by Jo Fredericks

When I was a kid up to around early primary school I had terrible eczema all around my mouth. I remember it being extremely embarrassing the irritating.

Mum got the idea to take me off all dairy products to give that a go and within a few months my eczema was gone for good.

Eventually I got back on dairy and at my worst I was drinking close to 2 litres a day. But I had no idea what I was drinking or where it came from. I mean I knew it came from a cow’s tit but that’s about it.

I always thought I was a pretty switched on and kinda smart guy but it turns out I knew nothing.

For some reason the thought never occurred to me that to produce milk a cow has to be forcibly inseminated and carry her child for 9 months. After going through labour her calf is dragged away immediately and is usually killed within a few days, if male, or if female will usually be used to replace her mother when the mother becomes unprofitable in a few years and is killed also.

Dairy is a slaughter industry. And in many ways it is much worse than even the industrialised meat industry.

(It’s also really bad for you and the environment)

Now I’m not trying to tell you to stop drinking milk because I say so (sorry to all my friends who do still consume dairy). I’m just saying that if you drink a lot of it — like I used to do — don’t you at least want to know where it’s coming from?

I saw this video a while ago with about a million views on YouTube while I was researching perhaps trying this whole vegan thing. It is exactly what it says it is, the dairy industry explained in 5 minutes.

It is one of the best videos you will ever see.
